Rowan

“As much as we like her and her brother, Rowan, they are trouble in a handbasket. Not so much Remy, but definitely Rae.” Chanti sat on the bench in the courtyard. It was just me and her. We’ve been back for about fifteen minutes, and I was surprised no one came to check on us. When I voiced my thoughts about that, she let me know that Rohan and Asha were out on some fact finding mission and that Rorik knew she needed to talk to me, so he left her alone until she went to him.

Not going to lie, Chanti’s words were troubling, but I couldn’t dwell on the Fae. Especially since she left me the way she did. Without saying a word. I had bigger things to worry about. Like finding my father and dealing with King Istvan and all of his devoted lackeys that haven’t stopped hounding us since we escaped his trap for us earlier this year.

“What type of trouble?”

“The really bad sort.”

I pinched the bridge of my nose. A habit stemmed from a lot of frustration lately. “Why doesn’t this surprise me? I’m always attracted to the bad ones.”

A light chuckle came from Chanti’s way. “She’s not bad. Just her situation.”

I had no clue that what she meant about that, but I was sure she was about to inform me. “Let me guess, you’ve seen her in a vision.”

“I have. Not much of one, but she was in it. I didn’t like the overall vibes I got from it. It was unclear. Unsettling. What I do know is you will be a lifeline to her, but you are also the problem for her.”

“Well, damn,” I mumbled before I paced back and forth on the grass. I hoped not to be the primary cause of any drama or issues with her. I liked her too much. Stopping, I twisted around to face Chanti. “What did you see?”

“Two sides of her. One light. One dark. Facing off. Images of you kept popping up.” Chanti uncrossed her legs and stood. “Be careful, brother. I will hurt whoever I need to over my family, and my list is already getting longer. That list will include her if she messes up. The Fae are known to be tricksters.”

I looked at her strange. I don’t think she’s ever called me brother. Not to my face, at least. “I’d hate to be the one whoever get on your bad side. I’m sure those witches learned their lesson.”

“Trust me. They’re still learning. I’m grateful for Jabari and his pack and Rorik at my side. People tend to shut up and mind their business when those two are around. Anyway, all I wanted to say was to be on the lookout and be careful.”

“I will.” I placed a hand on her shoulder. “Thank you for looking out for me.”

“That’s what family do.” Chanti grinned. “Speaking of Rae and Remy... where are they? I haven’t seen them around lately.”

Not wanting to let her know about my night with Rae, but one look from her told me everything I already suspected.
